Nuts & Bolts

It’s Christmas and that time of year to make Nana’s nuts & bolts. It just wouldn’t be Christmas without this deliciously morish and aromatic snack.

There are certain recipes that you only make at a certain time of year. For my family, nothing says Christmas like nuts and bolts and this particular homemade nuts and bolts recipe as it’s Bec’s mum’s recipe and she has been kind enough to let me share it. It’s one of our favourite Christmas only dishes. I hope you like it!

As this is Dad’s Home Kitchen’s first Christmas I have been looking forward to sharing this recipe as well as a few other recipes that we only do for the Christmas holidays. It’s one of those snacks that bring back so many great memories of past Christmases. Trust me when I say, that amazing smell and taste is something that will live in your mind forever. Not just that, but they are very very addictive.

Nuts & bolts are definitely not new and they are a number of variations out there. So the real question is, what is in YOUR family’s nuts and bolts recipe? I have found that recipes vary quite a lot. For this recipe, the must do tips that have been learnt over the years is that you MUST use “Keens” curry powder. This isn’t a plug for them at all. We have used others in the past and they just don’t have the same taste as what Bec’s mum’s nuts & bolts taste like. For the French onion soup mix, the generic home brand works the best. Lastly, canola oil is the best oil for this Christmas snack.

This is definitely a recipe that you need to have these Christmas holidays. It’s the perfect snack to take to all those family and friend gatherings too. It makes quite a lot and stores well for about two weeks in an airtight container. Enjoy & Merry Christmas!
