Hungarian Peas (Borsófőzelék)

Hungarian Peas (Borsófőzelék) is not only one of the most popular Hungarian vegetable stews, but is super easy to make. It’s the perfect comfort food, without the European guilt too.

It’s a little different, but I know you’re going to love it. This is a great winters night in meal while you’re eating in front of the TV or just a nice quick meal for the whole family.

Remembering the smells that came out of my grandmother & aunties kitchen, this dish puts out the same smells and brings back childhood memories.

And even though my grandmother never made this I know she would be looking down giving me the thumbs up. This is simple European comfort food at it’s best.

This is a good, fast and easy recipe. Not a holiday dinner went by without my Hungarian mother making this and
everyone loved it. Since her passing I’ve been looking for hungarian recipes to try to resemble her marvelous cooking as I sadly never had her write our favourites down. Everything was stored in her head. I did use frozen for the veggies which my mother always did as well but she modified her original recipe and used frozen peas and carrots. For the paprika I used a hotter one instead of sweet as our family likes some heat. I will also try it sometime with smoked paprika. Thank you for this great recipe!

Thank you for the kind words Leila. What you have added sounds amazing as well. I agree with you in that my grandmother and other family members had the recipes all in their head.
